Program Description
The African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) runs an AI for Science master's programme at AIMS South Africa, with fully-funded places supported by Google DeepMind. The programme trains African students in machine learning and its applications to scientific research, and is taught in pan-African cohorts.
**What it covers:** Machine learning foundations, deep learning, and the application of AI methods to problems in the natural sciences, along with research training and mentorship.
**Funding:** Scholarship support (via Google DeepMind and partner funders) covers tuition and living costs for selected students — check the programme website for the current list of funders and eligibility criteria.
**Eligibility:** Strong quantitative background (maths, physics, computer science, engineering or a related field), typically a bachelor's degree; open to African students — see the website for the exact criteria for each intake.
**How to apply:** Applications are made directly through AIMS — visit the official website for deadlines, entry requirements and the online application form.
