Program Description

AI4D Africa is a joint initiative supported by Canada's International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida). The programme funds African researchers who are developing artificial intelligence solutions that address local challenges in a responsible and ethical manner.

### What You Get

Research grants range from $20,000 to $100,000 depending on the project scope. Recipients also receive networking opportunities with other African AI researchers, conference travel support, and publication assistance.

### Who Should Apply

African researchers at universities, research institutes, and nonprofits working on AI for health, agriculture, education, governance, or climate adaptation. The programme prioritises projects that include women researchers and those based in underrepresented African countries.

Eligibility Guidelines

  • Applicants must be citizens of an African country, or currently registered in an accredited African tertiary academic institution.
  • Demonstrable interest or active project development in artificial intelligence, machine learning, or computer science.
  • Submission of active academic transcripts, CV, and a personal statement outlining project impacts.
